Boy's Golf Senior, Jack Ringel

Boys Golf, 2022 OHSAA State Champions!

The Seven Hills School—The Seven Hills men's golf team won the 2022 Ohio Division Three State Championship. After winning the Miami Valley Conference, Sectionals, and Districts, the Stingers headed to Columbus with aspirations of winning the state tournament. The two-day tournament was played at Northstar Golf Course on Oct. 14 and 15, and Seven Hills emerged victorious by five strokes.

Led by coaches James Vining and Scot Sapp, Seven Hills finished the first day of the tournament 12 shots back of the leader. Junior player Charlie Mullin said, "It feels great to win state. But it feels even better knowing that we were down 12 strokes going into the second day and we went out there and made up that 12 shot comeback."

Mullin was the low scorer from Seven Hills, shooting a 79 and 74 and finishing third overall along with earning first team all-state. When asked about making first team all-state, Charlie Mullin said, "It's an awesome feeling, but it's an even better feeling knowing that as a team we won the state championship." Other Seven Hills golfers include Billy Good shooting an 85 and 80, Jack Good with two 83's, William Hartmann with a 92 and 85, and John Mullin with a 90 and 92.

Jack Good, a senior, said it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to win state in his last year at Seven Hills. "It was my last time playing on that course as a competitive golfer," said Jack Good. "I executed well and now I get to come to school every day knowing I represent the school as a state champ. I'm glad that I was part of the championship run as a senior and will head off to college on a good note."

The Seven Hills men's golf team also won the state championship in 2016. "Golf seems like our greatest sport. Only team sport to win twice: 2016 and now," said Jack Good. Not only did the men's team make the state tournament, but the girl's golf team also made the state tournament.

Lifelong Seven Hills student and senior Will Gabriel said he believes the recent golf success is great for the school. "It provides great recognition for our school. People looking to come to the school recognize we have a great golf program. The soccer team is on the rise too so pretty soon the soccer team will be the talk of the town," said Gabriel.

Charlie Mullin said that hopefully their golf success will extend into next season. "We plan to play the same team we saw this year next year in the state final and hopefully we can repeat."
